Overview

Location: Eddy Street Campus; 211 N Eddy Street, South Bend, IN 46617

 

Hours: Full Time; 40 Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm - May be slightly variable depending on case start times.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the organization.
    • Supports and performs according to approved policies and procedures.
    • Participates as a team member in support of the total perioperative process.
    • Considers patient rights in performance of job duties and responsibilities.
  • Contributes to the progress and development of the approved Quality Assurance Program.
    • Supports risk management and participates in programs directed to the patient and staff safety.
    • Contributes to the quality management process; identifies role and contributions to functional teams.
    • Objectively evaluates suggestions, grievances, and processes to identify opportunities to improve performances and quality of care.

  • Adheres to safety policies and procedures in performing job duties and responsibilities.
    • Cleans and sterilizes each item according to manufacturers’ instructions.
    • Verifies each item is in good working condition; lubricates items when needed and inspects instruments under a microscope for damage and defects.
    • Sorts and arranges items into correct trays and wraps trays and individual items according to facility policy.
    • Accurately labels each item according to facility policy.
    • Utilizes instrument count sheets to assist in preparation of tray set up.
  • Correctly operates sterilizers, ultrasonic cleaner, washer, and other equipment for processing items.
    • Positions items correctly in sterilizer and selects proper cycle; seeks assistance when needed.
    • Checks indicators for proper functioning.
    • Performs required biological monitoring tests on all sterilizers according to facility policy.
    • Maintains availability of supplies for recording continuity during the sterilization process.
    • Cleans sterilizers according to facility policy.
    • Maintains accurate sterilization records.
  • Maintains inventory levels and accurate records.
    • Performs weekly inspections of all sterile items in the clean, pack, and prep area and checks for outdated items and package integrity of wrapped sterilized items; replaces items as necessary.
    • Places items in correct location.
    • Maintains adequate inventory of supplies for the sterile processing area.
    • Maintains and updates the instrument tray inventory list.
    • Maintains current information regarding routine preference cards.
  • Assists in room turnover.
  • Stocks and reorders supplies as needed.
  • Assists in pulling cases.
  • Exhibits computer systems knowledge and proficiency as necessary to perform job functions.
  • Demonstrates the attitudes and behaviors of The South Bend Clinic Service Standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned when appropriate.

Qualifications

The Experiences You Bring

 

Education/Certification/License: 

    CPR Certification is required.  Certification is preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Demonstrated understanding of sterilization procedures is required. Experience in central processing functions is preferred.  Requires constant and frequent judgment and response. 

 

Special Demands/Requirements:

None.  Works in a patient care/operating room environment which required physical exertion, frequent changes in job demands and certain undesirable patient care activities and possible exposure to biohazards.  Work schedule may vary to meet need of the SurgiCenter.
