Responsibilities

Standard

  • Provides assessment of medical/service needs of patients to ensure high quality care and optimal patient flow.
  • Receives patients professionally in waiting area and rooms per department protocol.
  • Performs the technical component of the department’s clinical procedures competently.
  • Communication of all patient care is thorough, objective, concise, and follows appropriate legal guidelines.
  • Documentation of all patient care is thorough, objective, concise, and follows appropriate legal guidelines.
  • Appropriately responds to emergency situations.
  • Maintains accurate and current logs for equipment.  Ex. Refrigerator temp, autoclave, eye wash, crash cart.
  • Verifies patient insurance coverage for pre-certification, referrals, and/or authorizations and documents in NextGen.
  • Applies knowledge of general insurance guidelines and requirements to help direct patient care.
  • Exhibits computer systems knowledge and proficiency as necessary to perform job functions.
  • Takes initiative to seek out tasks and duties or to assist others as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned when appropriate.
  • Exhibits computer systems knowledge and proficiency as necessary to perform job functions.
  • Adheres to HIPAA guidelines as set forth in Clinic policies and practices.

Dermatology

  • Required to scrub in for surgical procedures and assist physician.  This will be required a minimum of 20% of a full-time equivalent’s duties.
  • Obtains patient consent for surgery, prep, and drapes the patient in a sterile manner and administers local anesthesia.
  • Accurately and discreetly schedules, reschedules, cancels, and/or confirms patient appointments with provider per department protocols.
  • Completes complicated suture removals and assesses wound for infection. 

Qualifications

Education/Certification/License: 

  • Must have completed a medical assistant certification program or have equivalent experience. 
  • Minimum 2 years of experience.
  • Surgery or wound care experience preferred in Dermatology.

 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Detail oriented, excellent organizational and communication skills and be able to efficiently multi-task in a highly productive clinical setting.
  • Familiarity with various surgical instruments and up to date on OSHA regulations, safety procedures and equipment. 
  • Must maintain a sterile setting at all times during surgical procedures. 
  • Ability to anticipate the needs of the physician.
  • Must be a team player and professional at all times.  
  • Must be patient focused.
