Hours: Full-Time - Days; 40 Hours Weekly.

Responsibilities

Preoperative Phase:

  • Conduct patient assessments, including medical history and physical status
  • Verify surgical consent, site, and procedure
  • Educate patients and families about the surgical process and recovery expectations
  • Prepare patients physically and emotionally for surgery

Postoperative Phase:

  • Monitor patients in the recovery phase – PACU and Phase 2
  • Assess vital signs, pain level, and surgical site
  • Administer medications and manage pain control
  • Provide discharge instructions and patient education
  • Recognize and respond to complications

General Duties:

  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary team members
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and safety standards
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and staff education
  • Support a culture of safety, teamwork, and accountability

Qualifications:

  • Current Indiana Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; ACLS and/or PALS within 3 months of employment
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication, and organizational skills

Qualifications

Education/Certification/License: 

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current RN license in the State of Indiana. 
  • Must possess current BLS and ACLS.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be knowledgeable of safe and effective operation of a variety of specialized equipment specific to the perioperative area. 
  • Must be able to read and interpret orders. 
  • Must have the ability to communicate verbally and in writing with patients, families, staff, and physicians. 
  • Must be able to calculate figures and amounts.
